Formative Assessment: a) Draw a Time-Line of the following events and concepts - Louisiana Purchase, Manifest Destiny, Monroe Doctrine, Mexican Cession, Texas Annexation, Gadsden Purchase, and Oregon Territory and, 2) Explain how and why the US became a continental nation through westward expansion (SS.8.3.10) by elaborating on each event or concept. In addition, implement the relevant vocabulary (e.g., nationalism, tribute, embargo, manifest destiny, oath, nominate, etc.) into your answers.

Example: France, under the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, needed money to finance their war with Great Britain. Thus, President Thomas Jefferson purchased France's Louisiana Territory in 1803 for $15 million.
